A lived face
A lived face
Laughter lines are a privilege nobody mentions. Presence matters more than looking young.
Why so many lines?
Erick asked me why I have so many lines on my face. I told him, staring in the mirror, that I have laughed a lot. It is probably a reflection of my life.
I grew up in a time and a place where I had every chance to go looking for laughter. I still do.
The privilege nobody mentions
We talk about school, parents and money as privilege. I believe the chance to laugh, often and for years, is one too. Laughter lines are the receipt.
Presence over looking young
I look fifty, perhaps older. I look happy because I have a genuine, lived face. The difference is that I am always present, and I have a presence. That is what people notice, not the lines.
